Simon says read this next sentence. Do you believe you can teach an "old dog" new tricks?
If not, why would you ever do any training? In the past most employees came expecting to leave their brains at the door. The autocratic style of leadership worked then. However, in the changing world of business today employees expect to be "in on things" and have a "say in decisions", especially ones that affect them. Today a participatory management style is needed. Knowing what type of environment and work functions an employee is best suited for will significantly reduce turnover. As a matter of fact, you may not be in the right job yourself. You've certainly demonstrated that the autocratic style is no longer effective because Simon said to "only read the first sentence." |
