What Is an AQai Adaptability Assessment?

Transforming the way people and organizations adapt to change

Competitive Edge offers the AQme Adaptability Assessment from AQai, a research-based tool designed to measure Adaptability Intelligence across three interconnected dimensions: Ability, Character, and Environment. Together, these dimensions help reveal how, why, and under what conditions a person adapts to change.

AQai was formed out of a deep commitment to seeing people thrive at work and a recognition that change is too often a disruptive hurdle in the pursuit of ongoing success. The ability to adapt to change is one of the most important skills for an individual, team, or organization to cultivate. In fact, Adaptability Intelligence is not just a single skill, but comes from the interplay of multiple skills, dispositions and environmental factors.

The AQ Model® and A.C.E. Framework

The AQai approach has been to empirically research the nature of Adaptability and then break it down into measurable component factors. Working in cooperation with IE Business School & Madrid University, AQai developed the AQ Model®. This framework, also known as the A.C.E. Model, divides the aspects of Adaptability Intelligence into three main dimensions:

  • AbilityHow and to what degree do I adapt?
  • CharacterWho adapts and why?
  • EnvironmentWhen does someone adapt and to what degree?

Learn about AQ Model

These three dimensions of the A.C.E. model are further divided into five sub-dimensions each. Together these fifteen quantifiable measures comprise an individual’s AQ, or Adaptability Quotient. This is a comprehensive scorecard for understanding a person’s Adaptability Intelligence.

Generally speaking, the higher the overall AQ score, the more gracefully the individual will embrace and navigate change. However, this is not a one-dimensional report. The results provide a detailed breakdown of adaptability strengths and development opportunities across all fifteen factors, including capabilities related to recovering from setbacks, finding alternative solutions, and responding constructively when faced with change.

It is important to remember that an AQ score is not a fixed or permanent label. Assessment results provide a snapshot of adaptability within a particular context and can identify specific areas where skills, behaviors, or environmental conditions can be examined and addressed to improve adaptability.

AQme results are designed to help coaches, leaders, and organizations identify strengths and development opportunities related to change. By separating Ability, Character, and Environment, the assessment helps distinguish between skills an individual can develop and workplace conditions that may be supporting or limiting adaptability.
